INFO

A surf brand, a research lab, and a curatorial platform, PICNIC was founded in 2020 by artist and shaper Gregory Ruppe, and Alden Pinnell of The Power Station, a contemporary art space.

PICNIC SURF SHAPES specializes in surf craft that takes inspiration from the beauty and heritage of early wooden models to the experimental approaches of the 1960s and the punk aesthetics and principles Ruppe grew up with. The boards are built to last, with ecological kindness in mind and pure fun at heart.

Initially centered around Ruppe's designs and hand-shaped boards, the brand has since expanded to include artist collaborations, apparel, and other unique objects for use, in and out of the water.

In 2021, Ruppe and Pinnell formed PICNIC CURATORIAL PROJECTS, a not-for-profit arm of the company, bringing to it their combined long histories of curatorial efforts like The Power Station, Culture Hole, Swim Club 수영 클럽 and others.

PICNIC CURATORIAL PROJECTS funds and organizes artists' projects, researched-based initiatives, live performances, and other cultural happenings relevant to the ethos of PICNIC. A portion of proceeds from PICNIC SURF SHAPES  supports PICNIC CURATORIAL PROJECTS.
